Dénia's excellent beaches

One of Dénia's major natural assets is its wide variety of excellent beaches - safe, sandy, clean and superbly maintained. It has around 20 km of coast most of it equipped with foot showers, toilets and red cross lifeguards. Denia's beaches often win the annual European Union Blue Flag awards and also have municipal creche services and easy-access beaches for the disabled.

The sandy and safe beaches around stretch for miles. There are many restaurants and bars and the shopping is excellent. All forms of water-sports are also available. From the busy port there are numerous boat trips around the pretty coastline plus daily ferries to Ibiza. There area a wide variety of beach types ranging from the straight long sandy stetches of Las Marinas & Els Poblets, to the wide sandy bays just south of the town and the pebble coves and beaches of Les Rotes.

If you have children with you the sandy beaches will be the more comfortable, E.G. Les Marines which stretches for 14.4 km !!!! If you like diving, the rocky beach, like La Punta Negra is the best. The beach of Cala Rocosa is Denias nudist beach. It can be found at the end of the local road leading to Las Roquetes. It is a shingle beach. To the south of the town there is the sandy cove of Marineta Cassiana and the coast continues with another 4.2 km series of rocky coves and small pebble beaches that make up the protected Marine Reserve of Les Rotes

Most of the beaches have beach bars, toilet facilities, foot showers and in most cases there is easy, ample parking very near to the beaches.

Dénia town

Situated at the foot of Montgo Mountain natural park is the historic and elegant town of Dénia - a vibrant Mediterranean maritime town with bustling port, trendy marina and miles of superb safe beaches. Denia is the capital of the Marina Alta and with a very Spanish, cosmopolitan air. From the modern marina ferries leave for the Balearic Islands almost hourly, overlooked by the historic Castillo de Denia, which houses remains from Roman, Moslem and Christian eras. Charter companies offer day or half day boat hire and a ferry runs to Javea every two hours. In the extrovert and picturesque fishermen's quarter / old town you can lose yourself in tiny alleys, with unexpected squares in which to taste the catch of the day. Seafood is brought in to the port from Monday to Saturday and auctioned off at the "Lonia" fish market. During the evenings and nights, along the Cervantes esplanade opposite the port, bohemian stalls are set up offering objects of costume jewellery, leather work, etc

Dénia is a thriving, atmospheric maritime town with a busy port (ferries going to and from Ibiza and the Balearics) and a good central shopping area. The port and main shopping area both lie just outside of the "old town" area and as would be expected, some parts of the port and town consist of newer, less 'charming' buildings. These are mainly offices and apartments which are neccessarily less 'quaint' than those in the old town and as such we didn’t devote photo space to these.

Denia is perfect for shopping with a mixture of designer shops and boutiques and of course a variety of banks and cambios. The main avenue in Denia is the Plaza de la Constitucion where you can sit and watch the world go by. The tree lined Marques del Campo offers a shady haven from the heat

of the day for a coffee break or a leisurely lunch at one of the many cafes and restaurants which line the street. A night-time walk along the Calle Marques de Campo, will enable you to take part in the typical "tapeo" (going with a group of friends to enjoy "tapa" titbits) offered by the many bars lining the street.

This is a town with a wonderful, lively, Spanish personality offering a great variety of things to keep you absorbed once you leave the beaches at the end of the day. As well as being a historic port town Dénia was once the centre of the region's raisin growing industry. Raisins are still grown here and remain a local delicacy!

The photos on this page are a mix of the Dénia port area, the charming and atmospheric Dénia old town (most of which is less than 200 metres from the sea) and some of the many exceptional Dénia beaches.
